bout C & S Solar
I retired from Jim Walter Resources in 2006 after completing 27 years of service as a coal miner. Since retirement, I have been self-employed doing construction and remodeling. During my time as a contractor, I have become increasingly interested in the feasibility and cost-benefits of solar energy. I initially began installing solar attic fans and shortly thereafter, began combining the attic fans and radiant barriers. It has been amazing to see how much these two systems combined have made a difference in my own home’s energy saving, as well as those of my clients.
To further my knowledge of these technologies, I attended a 40-hour solar energy school at the Florida Solar Energy Center in Cocoa, Florida. It was at this seminar where I learned the processes involved with the installation of Photovoltaic Systems. I have installed some of the first systems in the Tuscaloosa/Northport area including a 4 KW system on my own home along with a solar tube. My power bill is $60.00 per month and the total investment for this type system would be $12,000.00. I am continually learning about these systems and I am currently working toward a National Certificate on Solar Powered Systems (NABCEP Certification) given by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners.
My dad, who is a visionary, has strongly encouraged me to continue my education in solar. He firmly believes there will be a great need for alternative energy in the near future-and has convinced me of the same.
My wife and I have been to Africa (Kenya) and Central America (Honduras) on several mission trips. I am currently working toward a project in Honduras to give a pastor hot water and electricity for his church and parsonage. There is such great need in other countries and we think about how much we enjoy hot showers and we want others to be able to experience the same.
I am an elder in my church and a member of the Sons of Thunder, a Christian men’s group. We take the Great Commission very seriously!!
Please feel free to contact me for further information on these innovative and money saving technologies. I would be delighted to speak with you.
